What Does Antiperspirant Clinical Strength Mean?

“Clinical Strength” is a marketing term to highlight antiperspirants with a higher concentration of active ingredient. This helps consumers easily identify these products without searching the label.

However, clinical testing is typically performed on antiperspirants to determine effectiveness and duration of effectiveness.

If an antiperspirant is proven, through clinical testing, to demonstrate standard effectiveness over 24 hours it may be labeled as:

  • 24 hour protection
  • Lasts 24 hours
  • All day protection
  • Lasts all day

If an antiperspirant is proven, through clinical testing, to be extra effective, it may be labeled as:

Extra effective

If an antiperspirant is proven, through clinical testing, to demonstrate extra effectiveness over a 24 hour period it may be labeled as:

  • 24 hour extra effective protection
  • All day extra effective protection
  • Extra effective protection lasts 24 hours
  • Extra effective protection lasts all day

Antiperspirants are regulated by the FDA and are considered over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. All antiperspirant labeling must include Drug Facts as outlined in the OTC monograph.
