Chemistry Intern


This position will support activities within the Quality Control Department.

Pharmaceutical Specialties, Inc. is looking for a chemistry intern for the summer of 2021.  The position will be in our Quality Control Laboratory.  Ideally, the candidate would be considered a college junior (have completed 60 credits).  This will help them to qualify for the SciTechsperience program.  Other candidates will be considered.  The position will be at least 10 weeks starting June 1, 2021.  The exact dates are negotiable.  Wages will be based on experience.  An applicant with a chemistry background is preferred.  Qualified applicants will have completed at least two semesters of entry level college chemistry. 

Chosen applicants will be trained in physical and chemical testing of incoming raw materials and finished products in the Quality Control laboratory.  Among these include identity, pH, specific gravity and viscosity.  The chosen applicant will also be trained in chemical tests such as quantitative analysis.  They will be introduced to a variety of analytical chemistry instrumentation including FT-IR, HPLC and GC. These tests will be done according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), United States Pharmacopeia (USP) requirements, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Pharmaceutical Specialties, Inc. Standard Operating and Analytical Procedures. 

General Competence:

The applicant needs to be neat, organized and able to communicate with others, including other departments within the company.  The applicant will need to be able to document work in a clear and organized manner.  They need to be accountable for the accuracy and validity of the test results and be able to follow hygiene and safety rules for the laboratories.  They must also be able to maintain a clean laboratory.  The applicant must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently with a strong sense of good judgement.  They must be able to use Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
